Cody Bauer Banks $5,000 in Gateway Dirt Nationals Opener
Cody Bauer banked a thrilling $5,000 Super Late Model victory on Friday night during his qualifying night for the sixth annual Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals at The Dome at America's Center (St. Louis, Mo).
From the outside-front-row starting spot Bauer paced all 25 laps of the preliminary feature to record the touted win. He survived a late-race challenge from Garrett Alberson to snare the triumph.
“It really doesn’t (feel real)," an emotional Bauer said. "Honestly, just getting into a Late Model four years ago, I would’ve never thought in a million years that I’d be standing here right now. That one (last caution) with four to go got me on edge for sure, but the ones early on, when we were catching lapped traffic, they definitely helped me.”
Bauer was followed across the finish line by Wil Herrington, Tyler Erb, Jadon Frame, and Tyler Carpenter.
On Saturday night Cody started on the pole for the $30,000-to-win finale and raced in the Top 10 throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in the seventh position.
